Why a film is shorter

The target length is a budget, not a promise. A month with three photographed days might make twenty seconds of film. Adding the fridge and the ceiling would make it longer. It would not make it better.

The editor tries distinct shots before stopping. It removes repeats even when that leaves the film short. Your title and ending cards also use part of the target length.

A film is as long as its distinct shots can carry. It's never padded.

You can change the target in the brief, or use the CLI:

immich-memories generate --year 2024 --month 6 --duration 60

For a longer result, choose a wider period or add pictures in the review. A saved edit can grow the film to fit what you keep.

If the period has pictures but nothing suitable, the run can finish successfully with Nothing worth a film and produce no video. A film with one usable shot is still a film. On this day needs usable material from at least two years because its point is the comparison.

Default lengths are on Film lengths. Shot holds, timing trims and filler rules are in the length reference.
